Dr. Maria was born in a small town in Alberta and has lived in Alberta all her life. She moved to Calgary in 1985 and has lived here ever since, except when she studied to receive her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in Edmonton. Her first degree in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology was obtained at the University of Calgary.
Married to her high school sweetheart for over 20 years, she values family and commitment. Raising her two beautiful daughters well is her proudest accomplishment. When not at work, Dr. Maria will most likely be found spending time with her family. Camping, travelling, biking, hiking, baking and playing board games are some of her favourite pastimes, as these activities are usually done with her husband and children.
Her newest passion is chocolate making. Dentist by day, chocolatier by night, Dr. Maria loves to create pretty and delicious chocolates. She loves the smiles it puts on people’s faces when they receive something so simple and sweet. Directing this love of chocolate into helping others, she uses this skill to support local charities.
She wants to make a difference for her patients as well. She loves relating to her patients and the opportunity to get to know them. As a general dentist, she enjoys most aspects of dentistry, but excels with children as they find her calming demeanour comforting and her tiny hands disarming.
Another way she is helping her patients is with administering Botox/Dysport/Xeomin, particularity to those with jaw pain, TMJ pain or headaches related to grinding and clenching of their teeth. Providing treatment that can give patients months’ worth of pain relief is rewarding, especially when patients’ quality of life can be improved. Besides, who doesn’t like its aesthetic benefits as well?
Dr. Maria believes in honesty and providing patients with all their treatment options, but at the same time, she is practical in helping patients decide on what would work best for their circumstances. Her honest and caring nature makes her easy to relate to and her gentle approach really puts patients at ease. She loves helping others, she loves smiles, and she loves to do her best for her patients. She has been practicing dentistry for over 20 years.
